Without the efforts of Pound Buddies, there would have been no municipal shelter in Muskegon County and countless animals could have perished.

Our
Commitment

After the former Keating Avenue animal shelter was deemed uninhabitable and condemned by the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD), Pound Buddies stepped forward with a commitment to our community to find a suitable new location for Muskegon County’s only municipal shelter.

New Building, New Debt

In May 2020, Pound Buddies purchased 3279 East Laketon Avenue for $800,000.

Pound Buddies launched a fundraising campaign to secure contributions for this project, with a goal of $2.1 million.

Almost $700,000 was raised before the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic resulted in a devastating decline of donations and grant opportunities. Throughout the pandemic, Pound Buddies' doors never closed.

Facing limited options, the Pound Buddies Board chose to invest in the future of animal welfare by securing lender financing to complete the new municipal shelter. As a result, the organization now carries approximately $1 million in property-related debt.
